Iran's Kiarostami to lead a second film fest jury
Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami has received a second invitation to lead the jury of an international film festival this year.
The award-winning director is to serve as the president of the Narrative Feature Competition jury of the 2009 Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) in Abu Dhabi.
The Documentary Feature Competition jury of the festival, to be held from October 8 to 17, will be led by James Longley, while Yousry Nasrallah will serve as the President of the Shorts Competition jury.
Kiarostami has also been invited to lead the jury of the 2009 Marrakech International Film Festival.
Filmmaker, painter, designer and photographer, Abbas Kiarostami has won the Cannes Golden Palm for his 1997 Taste of Cherry.
He has made about 40 feature-length films and documentaries. He also staged Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte at the 2008 Festival of Lyric Art in Aix-en-provence in France.
Kiarostami's films have been screened at numerous international film festivals and have won many prestigious awards. His 2008 production, Shirin, will also compete for the 2009 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Kiarostami's latest film, Certified Copy, starring the Academy Award winning French actress, Juliette Binoche, was shot in Tuscany, northern Italy.
The love story is the Iranian director's first feature film shot outside Iran and is set to be screened at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
