Study finds running slows ageing
Scientists believe running can slow the aging process and middle-aged individuals who run regularly live a longer and healthier life.
According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the middle-aged members of a runner's club were 50 percent less likely to die over a 20-year period compared to individuals who do not run.
The study showed that compared to non-runners, runners not only exercise more but are also leaner and
smoke less.
Findings also revealed that older runners experience fewer disabilities and injuries and remain more active well into their 70s and 80s.
Stanford University researchers believe running and other aerobic exercises reduce the risk of developing numerous ailments such as cardiovascular and neurological diseases, various cancers and Alzheimer's.
