Iran's Majlis election turnout over 65%
Early results from Friday's Majlis elections indicate a massive voter participation of over 28 million, representing a turnout of more than 65%.
Over 28 million out of some 43.8 million eligible voters participated in Iran's parliamentary elections Friday, meaning a turnout of more than 65 percent, Press TV reported.
Initial results show that out of 118 seats already decided in the country"s 18 provinces the Principlists, representing different factions of the umbrella front generally known as Priciplist (Osoulgara), are leading with 85 seats.
The Reformist camp has reportedly won 25 of the already decided seats, while 8 seats have gone to independents.
The 25 seats won by the Reformist camp are divided between the two main factions known as the Reformist Coalition and the National Trust Party of Mehdi Karroubi, with a few seats going to independent reformists.
Earlier, Iran"s Interior Minister Mostafa Pour Mohammadi had said that the final results of the elections nationwide would be announced by Thursday morning at the latest.
It is worth noting that the elections in a number of constituencies, where the candidates have failed to pass the 50% mark, are expected to move to the second round.
