Supreme Leader Views Comprehensive Scientific Plan as Iran's Most Vital Need
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on the government, Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution and other decision-making bodies and officials of the country to prepare Iran's comprehensive scientific plan.
Addressing a gathering of the countrywide university chancellors, chairmen of higher education institutes and directors of research centers here on Monday, the Leader stressed the need for the prevalence of science-based approach and activities in the society.
Noting the scientific goals and objectives sought by the country's 20-year outlook for economic, social, cultural and political development, he described preparation of a comprehensive scientific plan as the most basic and crucial need of the country and said, "In order for Iran to achieve a top scientific status in the world the plan must be designed on the basis of a specific time-table and strategy."
Stating that Iranian youth have high talent to acquire modern science and make headway in the field of science, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the country's high man-power potentials, the large number of university students, successful scientific experiences, skillful and experienced professors and instructors and recent access to some fields of hi-tech and called for the further application of theories and theoretical sciences.
He reminded that the scientific growth would be achieved through a process starting from the most elementary levels and moving towards stage-by-stage education, academic level and post-graduate studies.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that both the government, the High Council on Cultural Revolution and other policymaking bodies are responsible to pave the way for scientific growth and that they should provide the budget envisaged in the Fourth Economic, Cultural and Social Development Plan from gross national products (GNP) for the research studies, otherwise, it would be impossible to reach the objectives.
He also reiterated the need for the qualitative and quantitative growth of universities and academic centers and called balanced look at the different scientific fields and university courses as a necessity for all academic centers.
Meantime, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the need for elevating the analytic and political understanding of the university students and presence of different political movements at the universities, but reminded that student movements should not turn into a tool in the hand of some political groups and parties which operate outside universities.
