Introduction

The Dubai-based Children's City is the first educational city in the UAE devoted to children between two and fifteen years old where they can investigate, explore, play, discover, and learn about the world in which we live.

The City is especially designed for children to interact and discover together in family and school groups. It contains several exhibits and programs on applied sciences, nature, space exploration, human body, local and international culture as well as a children-under-five corner and a planetarium. In addition, Children's City presents daily educational workshops through out the year. A theater venue with 214 seats presents different shows to cater for children and students.

The first educational and entertainment city in the middle east, targeting children of ages from 2 to 15 years, in which children can practice their hobbies in research an exploration in an entertaining and educational atmosphere using their different senses.

To achieve our goals, the Children's City is committed to employing a team of dedicated and professional staff that understands children and the way they learn in family and school groups.

Our staff includes specialists from the field of education, sociology, child psychology, as well experts on children with special needs.

History

Under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Children’s City was opened inMarch 5th 2002. Dubai Municipality proposed the idea of the project in1992. At that time, it was decided to establish an educational center devoted especially for children using the most advanced technologies, through which children can gain knowledge in an educational, entertaining and interactive atmosphere since that there is no similar project around. In1996 the municipality conducted a comprehensive survey covering scientific museums and centers in Europe and United States of America to end up with the Children’s City. This was followed by a series of meetings comprising the project team from Dubai Municipality, specialists from UNESCO, and related consultants, in addition to some selected school children of different ages, to get acquainted with their ideas and interests and to facilitate studying all aspects related to child including his/her needs, endeavor to integrate them in the project, to achieve diversity and comprehensiveness. Execution stage started inMarch 2000and was completed inFebruary 15th 2002.
