The Historic Village of Abyaneh (Part 2)
Thanks to its classical and domestic architecture, Abyaneh village has become one of the most spectacular villages in the world. Historic monuments of this village are a fire temple of the Sasanid period, a temple named Anahita, castles, mosques, shrines, houses dating back to Safavid period, abbeys, and Ab-Anbaars (spaces used as water reservoirs).
Dates printed on the old doors of buildings in Abyaneh village, the form of its historic monuments, in addition to some other evidence, are proofs of its dating back to a distant past. Researching in the historic monuments of this village leads us to three classifications consisting of buildings of Saljuk, Safavid, and Qajar period. Houses that are made of crimson soil and built multistoried, sometimes even in four stories are very attractive. Crimson soil is extracted from a mine outside the village and is said to have the property of becoming more solid when rained on.
Since Abyaneh is located on the steep skirts of the mountain, the flat roofs of the lower houses form the yard for the upper ones. This has made the village to look like steps. The regional weather has been completely taken into consideration in the architecture and division of the houses' internal areas and various measures have been taken in order not to waste energy during the hot and cold seasons of the year. Among different methods adopted in the architecture of the buildings, some are: building external, thick brick walls, shielding the roofs and wall with thatch, making wooden roofs, and having multifunctional internal rooms such as special ones for summer and winter. Regarding the facade of the buildings, all doors and windows are made of wood with its natural color.
Balconies with wooden balustrades facing the alleys have added to the external view of the buildings, taken advantage of the magnificent mountainous spectacle, and also lead to well exploiting the sun light and heat.
Abyaneh Jame' mosque is one of the most significant buildings of this village and has been reconstructed several times. Its magnificent mehrab is made of brown walnut inlaid wood with Qur’anic bosses and inscriptions. This mehrab was built in the year 477 lunar calendar. Two other mosques in this village are namely parzleh which dates back to the Ilkhanid period, and Hajatgah mosque which is related to the Safavid period. The roofs of these two mosques are coated with paintings and beautiful geometrical frames and a special sort of delicate wooden coats.
The Harpaak fire temple is among the monuments dating back to the Sasanid period and is located in the centre of the Abyaneh village.
Abyaneh village, with its invaluable historic monuments, red houses, and people with sun-burnt faces and colorful type of clothing, indeed resembles an exclusive demographic museum in which life is vividly seen.
