Indian filmfest to honor Iran’s Mehrjui

The 2011 Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) is to pay tribute to the internationally-acclaimed Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui.

The award-winning filmmaker will be honored during the opening ceremony of the Indian festival on December 15, Hindustantimes reported.

The event will also screen The Cow, The Lodgers, Sara, The Pear Tree and The Music Man by the Iranian director.

Born in 1939, Mehrjui is regarded to be among the intellectual directors of Iranian cinema. Most of his works are inspired by literature and adapted from Iranian and international novels and plays.

The fourth edition of BIFFES will run until December 22, 2011, screening films in competition and non-competition sections.
