so the first topic that I want to suggest is:

what is effective listening?

Hi, how do you do?

Thank you for making such an informative topic. Listening is actually an important skill in the English language.

To me, effective listening depends on how much we understand the gist of something! I mean it doesn’t matter how many vocabularies are familiar with us! However, it is an appreciable ability to understand the whole listening context! Any way, I believe we have to try our best to find out what aim a listening tape is serving...for instance: Where is it? Who is/are speaking? What are they doing? These are all first questions which we need to answer by listening to a LISTENING.

Apart forms this fact, I also recommend a great method to listen much more effectively. To illustrate that, you need to enhance your ability to memorize pervious sentences which has been talked and also you should be able to predict what is he/she talking about? These two points need daily routine practice. You can listen and then stop the tape and rack your brain to remember and also predict the rest of listening! I have to mention that this method is beneficial for taking an exam.

That’s all which came to my mind at the moment.

I agree with you, first stage in effective listening of English language tests surely is to understand the gist of them.

I have not experienced the method that you proposed for the listening but I am certain that it would be useful and will use it on my way to the IELTS degree.

In my opinion the most important factor in preparing for the listening module of the English language tests is to listen as much as you can both extensively and intensively as you mentioned the intensive part of it.

But we can also look at the effective listening from another point of view. I mean HONAR-E-Listening, listening in classes for example, or other kinds of listening.

Now I want to put forward some headlines about effective listening, in a context that a professor gives lecture at university, to talk more:

A. We may have the wrong idea about listening.

B. Make sure you know something about the topic

C. The number of key points will be limited

D. Certain words will guide you

E. Choose your seat carefully

F. Interact with the speaker

G. Speaking is a slow form of communication

H. Process what you hear
