Tehran to exhibit heuristic art
The Dey art gallery is planning to mount a three-day exhibition of works created by heuristic Iranian artists in the capital city of Tehran.
“The event, to be held from October 5 to 7, 2010, will display 45 paintings and sculptures by 13 heuristic artists,” gallery director Feryal Salahshour told Fars News Agency.
The works have been selected from a collection of artworks created during the 2nd Festival of Heuristic Artists held in the northern Iranian province of Mazandaran.
The annual festival is held in a village near the city of Babol where the famous female heuristic painter Mokarrameh Qanbari was born.
Born in 1928, Qanbari had no formal art training. She used bright, organic colors inspired by the natural surroundings of her village and within a few years her talent was discovered by painters in Iran and overseas.
She was chosen as the woman of the year by the Iranian Women’s Studies Foundation (IWSF), and the University of Stockholm in 2001.
She passed away at the age of 77 in the city of Babol on October 24, 2005. Her house was recently turned into a museum featuring her works.
Hollywood’s Fox Film Corporation has purchased the rights to make a biopic of Qanbari with Meryl Streep playing the late artist’s role.
