Iranian children’s book illustrations on display in Portugal
The Water Museum of Lisbon is playing host to children’s book illustrations by Iranian artists.
The exhibition opened during a ceremony on Thursday and will continue for one month at the venue.
The exhibition provides a golden opportunity for the Portuguese people who want to get acquainted with innovative Iranian art which combines tradition with aspects of modernism, director of museum Margarida Ruas said during the ceremony.
Artworks on display at the exhibit, which originate from the Iranian culture, lead visitors to the innocent world of children, the organizer of the exhibition Eduardo Philipp mentioned.
The illustrations were on display at the Ilustrarte 2007 exhibit, a children’s book illustration biennial in Barreiro, Portugal from November 2007 to January 2008.
Iranian illustrators from the Shabaviz publishing company, the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults and a number of freelance artists participated in the exhibit—each artist presenting three artworks.
A total of 120 artworks created by 40 Iranian artists will be on display at the exhibit.
Several Portuguese school children will pay visit to the exhibit which is sponsored by Iran’s Embassy in Portugal.
