Indian baby born with two faces
A baby with two faces has been born in a northern Indian village, where she is being worshipped as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess.
Sabir Ali, the director of Saifi Hospital says the baby caused a sensation in the dusty village of Saini situated 25 miles from New Delhi. When she left the hospital eight hours after a normal delivery, she was swarmed by villagers he said.
One-month-old Lali is receiving a world of affection and admiration as hundreds of pilgrims travel to visit her and her impoverished parents to touch her feet out of respect and receive blessings.
Lali is doing well, drinking milk from her two mouths and opening and shutting all four eyes at one time. Her condition is often linked to serious health complications, but the doctor said "She is leading a normal life with no breathing difficulties." Ali said he saw no need for surgery.
The child apparently has an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces. All of Lali's facial features are duplicated with the exception of her ears, she has two. Lali's parents say she feeds through one mouth and sucks her thumb with the other, otherwise “She is just like any other child".
