Ayatullah Dastghaib Shirazi :Shaheed e Mihrab
Martyr Ayatullah Abul-Husayn Dastghaib Shirazi , was a nobleman from a religious family of Shiraz known for its intellectual heritage. Due to the healthy atmosphere around him, he developed a natural tendency towards acquiring knowledge.
After completing the elementary studies in his nometown, he moved to Najaf, Iraq in pursuit of higher religious education. He contunued his studies and soon reached the stage of Ijtihad. He then returned to his hometown of Shiraz, where he spent huge amounts of money to renovate Jame Masjid Ateq. There, he began to lecture on the exegesis of the Qur’an and ethics. His persistent efforts raised the standard of education of the Hauz al-Ilmia of Shiraz in the various fields of Fiqh, Beliefs and Moral science.
The secular, irreligious Shah imposed restrictions upon him and he was arrested many times and was also put under house arrest.
After the success of the Iranian Revolution, he was elected as a representative at the Majlis (Iranian Parliament). The post of Imam of the local mosque of Shiraz was also bestowed upon him.
On Friday, 11 December in 1981, as he was proceeding to lead the prayers, he was brutally killed by his enemies (Monafiqeen). After his martyrdom, he is popularly known as "Shaheed e Mihrab".
