Iranian painting finds its way to Belgian museum

A painting by the Iranian artist Javad Alizadeh recently found its way to the Rene Magritte Museum in Brussels, Belgium.

The work, inspired by Magritte’s famous painting of a middle-class man wearing a bowler hat, is cataloged and displayed in the main hall of the museum alongside the works of Magritte.

Alizadeh told the Persian service of ISNA that his interest in the amazing surrealistic works of Magritte motivated him to create the work several years ago on the occasion of Magritte’s 100 birth anniversary, “I made a gift of the painting to an electioneer of Magritte’s works in Belgium via an Iranian friend.”

In a letter on May 23, addressing Alizadeh, the curator of the museum has expressed thanks to the Iranian artist for his donation and wrote, “I am happy that the spirit and feeling of Magritte has been attuned to your feelings in Tehran.”

The René Magritte Museum occupies the house in which the Belgian surrealist painter worked for nearly 24 years of his life.

The ground floor of the museum comprises the apartment which the painter used to rent, and where he lived with his wife Georgette from 1930 to 1954, and also a biographical exhibition dedicated to the painter.
