Inscriptions, Ardabil

Sassanide Shapour Inscription, Meshkin Shahr

About 100 meters to the east of the main square in Meshkin Shahr, this inscription is located in a valley named Dareh Baq Nowruz. On one of the slopes there is an inscription belonging to the Shapour II, the Sassanian. This inscription is composed of the following sections:

Line 1-3: The date of the inscription goes back to year 300 before Islam. 

Line 3-9: Recognition of the work of Hormoz for his six-year efforts during the construction of the tower.

Line 9-21: An advice from Hormozd to the elite of the city asking them to contemplate the beauty of the tower or to make an effort to build a better one.
