Iraqi Forces Kill over 130 Daesh Terrorists West of Mosul
Iraqi security forces launched a major operation against the positions of Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) west of the embattled city of Mosul, killing more than 130 members of the foreign-backed terrorist group, local reports said.
As part of the massive operation to liberate Mosul from Daesh terrorists, the Iraqi Federal Police forces attacked the militants and inflicted heavy casualties on them.
The commander of Nineveh Liberation Operation, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, said his forces have managed to kill 130 terrorists and destroy five booby-trapped vehicles along the western coasts of Mosul.
In another operation, the Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, foiled an attack by the terrorists in al-Hazar district south of Mosul.
The Iraqi fighter jets also targeted positions of Takfiri terrorists in Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, killing 10 militants.
On October 16, 2016, the Iraqi army backed by Federal Police and Hashd al-Shaabi launched a massive operation to retake Mosul, the last major stronghold of the Takfiri militants of Daesh in the Arab country.
In recent years, Iraq has been facing the threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh terrorist group.
Daesh militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, blunted the edge of Daesh offensive and later forced the Takfiri group to withdraw from most of the areas it had occupied.
