Ayatollah Khamenei’s Viewpoints on the Ongoing Crises in the World of Islam
The 29th International Islamic Unity Conference was held in Tehran on December 27-29, 2015. Like the previous 28 conferences, the 29th conference was held concurrent with the birth anniversary of the Prophet (PBUH) of Islam. In its current year summit, the international conference focused on the theme of “Present Islamic World Crisis”, something that the Supreme Leader in his recent remarks has clarified as “big troubles for Muslim Umma” and “first priority for Muslims” for repeated times. He has introduced the factors creating crises (crisis-generating factors) and the factors for terminating crisis (crisis overcoming factors). This paper is a synopsis of his most recent viewpoints expressed from January 2014 through January 2015.

First Theme: Evaluation of Current Conditions of the World of Islam
Ayatollah Khamenei: “To be fair, today the world of Islam is in deep trouble. Just take a look at the situation in Islamic states in our region, from Pakistan and Afghanistan to Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, from Yemen to Libya. The Islamic countries in West Asia and North Africa have many problems today. They are entangled in insecurity, killing religious brothers, suppression by disbelieving groups and behind all these misbehaviors they are troubled with the plots staged by the great arrogant powers headed by the United States. They get into action in the name of protecting their benefits and do whatever they wish, i.e. lust and wrath. They kill innocent people and support the terrorist groups.”
Ayatollah Khamenei: “Today, the Islamic countries face conspiracy. Do we understand this or not? Today, the conspiracy is against Islam, not against Shia Muslims, Sunni Muslims, not even against such and such religion. This is because the Holy Qur’an belongs to the Muslims. The source reciting “and never will Allah give the disbelievers over the believers a way [to overcome them]” (10), is not Shiism. It is Qur’an. It is Islam. This is why they oppose it. They oppose any source, any voice awakening people and nations. They oppose any hand rising against global arrogance and that hand, is the hand of Islam. That voice is the voice of Islam. That is why they oppose Islam.
Their methods and manners for fighting Islam and for enmity with Islam are diversified, in different types and tactics. They make plans and find solutions for infiltration, for giving a blow to Islam.”
Ayatollah Khamenei: “Today, the mischievous policies of the United States in this region, that cause war and bloodshed, homelessness, poverty and underdevelopment, and ethnic and religious disputes, on one hand, and the atrocities of the Zionist regime, that has adopted most oppressive, wretched and malicious behavior in Palestine, as well as the repeated insulting of the sacred Masjid al-Aqsa and stampede on the lives and properties of the oppressed Palestinians, on the other hand, are the first priorities for all Muslims who must contemplate on these issues and who must recognize their Islamic and religious duties in view of these behaviors.”
Ayatollah Khamenei: “The sorrowful incidents in the region – in Iraq and Syria and Yemen and Bahrain – and on the West Bank and Gaza and in some Asian and African countries, are among the serious problems for the great Islamic Umma. The hand of the global arrogance in these incidents must be identified and a solution must be found. The nations must ask it from their governments and the governments must be loyal to their heavy responsibility.”
