Islamieh village (Part 2)
Besides their main jobs that are mostly administrative, marketing, and labour, most of the village residents work in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, apiculture, and sericulture. However, the main function of this village is providing services for travellers who pass the Yazd-Shiraz Highway. The location of many shops along the side of this highway is a proof to this. With its fine weather, Islamieh village owes its beauty to its exclusive situation, viewpoint of high mountains, and gardens of almond and walnut trees. Green areas in the vicinity of Feyzabad River have provided a proper place for tourists to pass their leisure time. A part of Shirkooh, called Shirkooh-e Sagheer or the Minor Shirkooh, is a mountain climbing resort for mountaineers during all seasons of the year. The mountain is usually snow-covered in winters and therefore its valleys are brimful of water in springs.
Another attraction of this village is Islamieh cave on mountain skirts of the village heights. With 20 meters width, and 20 meters height, this cave is of special attraction for mountain climbers and has some historical monuments in it; one of these is the remaining of an old castle which dates back to the Parthian period. The castle has walls made up of huge bricks and thatch.
Ta-Mehr spring is considered as another tourist attraction of Islamieh village. With the beginning of rainfall in early spring, this spring gets full of water and the flow of light, pure, and cool water continues in it till the beginning of the month of Mehr in early fall.
About 1.5 km west of Islamieh village, are located the heights known as Oqhab-Kooh Eagle Mountain since the huge boulder resembles a giant eagle. With an altitude of 2018 meters above sea level, this mountain is of high attraction to climbers and tourists alike. In addition to all these, a very old plane tree believed to 1,500-years-old and the Cheel Tower or Cooling Tower at the entrance of the village that used to be a place for collecting toll money from tradesmen and travelers in the days of yore have added to the attractiveness of Islamieh. Old garden pathways and orchards of pomegranate in various districts of the village catch the eye of every passer-by. In addition to the unique natural attractions, there are also some valuable houses in the older quarter of Islamieh such as the Jaame' Mosque and the historic texture in its vicinity. This mosque is registered as a national monument by Iran's List of Cultural Heritage.
The Qadamgah shrine and mosque is another historical building in the village that has a wonderfully-carved stone in its Mehraab or prayer niche which shows the date 512 lunar Hijri. This building used to be known as Ali-ibne Musa al-Reza Mosque in the past in honour of the 8th Imam and the footprint attributed to him. Inscriptions and other notes written in black colour on the walls of the building, date back to the 7th and 8th centuries of the Hijri calendar.
It is also worth knowing that handicrafts such as carpet-weaving, termeh-bafi or handwoven silken-woolen fabrics, and zardouzi or embroidery with gold-coloured threads, are widely prevalent in Islamieh. The weavers here use a variety of patterns of various styles such as Kashan, Kerman, Isfahan, and Yazd, which can be taken as souvenirs from the village. Additionally, barberry, walnut, almond, pomegranate, local bread, and hand-made baskets woven of pomegranate wood are considered as souvenirs of Islamieh village.
