Islamieh village (Part 1)
This article will take you to the mostly desert Province of Yazd which has 50 registered rural tourist sites including natural landscapes, historical monuments, industrial sites, and cultural centres.
These villages attract many tourists and travellers throughout the year, especially in springs and summers. From among them we can name Islamieh, Fahraj, Aghda, Deh-Bala, and Tezer-Jaan villages.
Islamieh village is located in a wide valley 30 km southwest of the city of Yazd, the capital that shares name with the Province. This village lies 10 km from the city of Taft. It is on the northern slopes of the Shirkooh Mountain and next to Oqab-Kooh Mountain whose altitude is 2018 meters above sea level. The highway from Yazd to Shiraz passes from beside the village and as a result this village has linearly developed along this national highway. The average altitude of Islamieh village is 1700 meters above sea level and its underground water resources lie at a depth of 40 meters. Islamieh village has been a trade pole in the region from a long time. Tourists and travellers have always been provided with welfare services in this village. Nowadays, as well, due to its proximity to the Yazd-Shiraz Highway, the village keeps providing services for travellers and is one lively tourist halt near the city of Taft. About 2 thousand people live in the village; they speak Persian language with a local accent and are Shi'ite Muslims. The weather here is more moderate than that of Yazd thanks to its proximity to the Shirkooh heights and the influence of mountain rainfalls and seasonal winds. Islamieh village enjoys a fine moderate weather during spring and fall, but is rather hot in summer and cold in winter.
The village dates back to the eighth century Hijri and has historical monuments such as the Jaame' mosque, castles, water mills, a cave, the Ta-Mehr spring, and a place called Qadamgah or footprints imprinted on stone and attributed to Imam Reza (PBUH) when the 8th Infallible successor of the Prophet passed through this place on his way from Medina to Khorassan. These monuments and places are of cultural and historical importance.
The texture of Islamieh village is of historical value and plays a key role in attracting tourists to the village. This texture has been rebuilt and reconstructed with the help of The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization of Yazd Province, and some other organizations.
Among the historical buildings in the village, the most prominent and important is the Qadamgah edifice that dates back to the Seljuqid era.
Researches show that there used to be an old inn in the vicinity of the Qadamgah building. Furthermore, centralization of places such as the inn, Qadamgah, a cistern, a coffeehouse, and a market in the proximity of the Yazd-Shiraz Highway goes to show that the mentioned area used to be an inn of very high importance.
The weather condition and the type of water and soil, in addition to the perseverance of the residents of Islamieh village have paved the ground for growing various plants and trees in the village. Different types of trees that are planted and grown in gardens near the village are pomegranate, almond, apricot, plum, apple, peach, sour cherry, quince, damson, berry, persimmon, walnut, pear, fig, grape, cherry, and a lot more. However, pomegranate and almond grown in the region are of a higher quality. Various grains and vegetables such as chickpea, chuckling vetch, lentil, bean, potato, wheat, barley, corn, sunflower seed, beet, turnip, and alfalfa are also grown and cultivated in Islamieh village. There also grow wild medicinal plants like thyme, rhubarb, licorice, ox tongue, and wild onion.
