Why the Almighty God Assures the Prophet (PBUH) on the Day of Ghadir Khum?
Addressing Prophet (PBUH) by “Ya ayyuha Rassoul)
The Prophet (PBUH) knew well that some of the new Muslims had converted to Islam because of wealth or power and some others because of saving their lives. In some cases, the new Muslims and also the opponents of Islam had even motivated people to stand against Imam Ali (A.S). They had the unresolved enmity of the battles of Badr, Hunayn and Uhud in their hearts, willing to destroy Islam for their animosity with Imam Ali (A.S). This is why the Verse of Proclamation was revealed to say: O, Messenger do not worry, God will protect you (meaning your name, your path, your goal and your attempts) against people.
The Almighty God has addressed the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in various verses by various names and attributes such as Ya ayyuha Nabi, Ya ayyuha al-Mozamel, Ya ayyuh al-Modaser, … However, in the Verse of Proclamation, God has addressed His Prophet (PBUH) by “Ya ayyuha Rassoul”. This has been mentioned in only two verses: The Verse of Proclamation and in Chapter Al-Maidah: 41, where He says: “Ya ayyuha Rassoul la yahzunka allazina … = O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, … Allah does not intend to purify their hearts. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.”
The addressing of the Prophet (PBUH) by “Ya ayyuha Rassoul” goes well with the prophetic mission of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH). In other words, such addressing is in line with the prophetic mission of the Messenger (PBUH). He has nothing of himself to proclaim, and he is a messenger to proclaim the Rule of God.
