Nomination forms issued for Islamic Personality of the Year

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award has issued the nomination forms for the Islamic Personality of the Year.Ibrahim Bu Melha, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Justice Department, Attorney General and Chairman of the organising committee of the award, said nomination forms will be sent to institutions and universities in Arab and Islamic countries, which will name candidates for the title in the seventh edition of the award.
Dr Yousef Al Qaradawi was chosen in the fourth edition, while Alija Izetbegovic, former President of Bosnia and Herzegovina was picked in the fifth edition followed by Dr Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al Turki in the sixth edition.The form includes personal details of the candidate, his academic qualifications, books and research, activities whether locally, or at the Islamic and international levels, memberships and designations. The committee also reviewed measures for launching the Quranic Research Centre which brings up the number of the award's branches to eight since its inception in 1998.

Malaysia takes serious view of Islamic nations' aspirations for OIC

KUALA LUMPUR

The incoming chairman of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), takes a serious view of the aspirations of Islamic countries to give a new lease of life for the 57-member grouping, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Friday.

Syed Hamid said when he attended the OIC Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Tehran recently, many countries urged Malaysia to reinvigorate the OIC after assuming the chairmanship.He said Malaysia had held many meetings and had set up several committees to manage the OIC Summit which would be held in four months.He said OIC Secretary-General Dr Abdeloushed Belkeziz would visit Malaysia this month to view the preparations for the summit.Syed Hamid also called on Malaysians to vote out political parties that distort Islam and use religion for political means in the upcoming general election.

Azhar: New girls’ dormitory inaugurated

Cairo

The Rector of the Azhar University, Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashim, has officially inaugurated a new dormitory for girl students here, which would be known as the Sayyida Ruqayya Building. Hashim said the six-story building has 190 rooms, and will house 1,500 girl students. It cost Egyptian Pounds four million to build, he said, all of which donated by Dr. Mahmoud Tal’at Al-Faqi.
