The Saudi Government has decided that it would restore the ancient landmarks of Madina city, mostly those to the north of the Prophet’s Mosque, covering an area of 60,000 square meters. Furthermore, two heritage museums would be built in the area, and a water tank for the distribution of Zamzam water, based on old architectural patterns. Other structures that would come up include a data center, a center for learning the principles of Islam, ancient marketplaces that were built during the Ottoman era, plus a number of mosques.

Lebanon: Mosque project facing problems

The Muhammad Alamin Renovation Project here is still facing some difficulties, mainly due to the fact that some ancient relics have been discovered beneath the ground on which the mosque was built. The project saw the light of day when Rafiq Al-Hariri, Lebanon’s Prime Minister, took over the responsibility of renovating this Islamic edifice, at his personal expense, and then hand it over to the Islamic Sunni Wakf Commission here. However, when completed, the mosque would be an important landmark in the central commercial district of Beirut.

MWL chief meets with Chad Muslim leader

Makkah,

Dr. Abdullah Al-Turky, secretary-general of the Muslim World League (MWL) met here recently with Sheikh Hussein Abkar, president of the Supreme Council of Muslims in Chad. The latter expressed his country’s thanks for the help and support the Muslims are getting from Saudi Arabia and its Islamic organizations. He also said that the scholars in his country have unreservedly condemned the terrorist explosions that took place in Riyadh recently, adding that they also welcome the curricula which the MWL is calling for in dealing with the problem of not having a proper understanding of Islam.
