Iranians mark death anniversary of Islam's Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Iranians across the country mourn the anniversary of the death of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom of his grandson Imam Hassan (PBUH), the second revered Imam of Shias.
Millions of Iranian mourners all over the country marked the tragic events on Friday.
The 28th day of the month of Safar (the second month in the lunar calendar) marks the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and martyrdom of his elder grandson, Imam Hassan.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in about 570 AD in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca. He was granted to be the final prophet by God at the age of 40. He passed away at the age of 63 after 23 years of disseminating the message of Islam.
Iranians are also mourning the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (PBUH), the eighth Imam of Shias, who was martyred on the last day of the month of Safar.
