We won’t allow Zionist regime’s settlements: Abbas
Acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas has warned that Palestinians will not allow the Zionist regime to
build new illegal settlements in the occupied territories. According to IRIB, Abbas said on Saturday that Zionist regime’s plans to build new settlement units were "a red line and we will not allow it to happen.”
He also said that Palestinians were "holding contacts on all levels to stop the Zionist project, "adding "The entire world opposes settlements and say they are illegal."
The remarks come after Zionist regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he didn’t care what the United Nations said about Tel Aviv’s plans to build more settler units and instead, pledged to escalate construction activities.
Abbas also called on the international community to explore measures to respond to Israeli moves and press the regime to release tax revenues belonging to the Palestinians.
On December 3, Zionist regime announced plans to construct 1,600 new illegal settlement units in the E-1 area between East al-Quds and the occupied West Bank in violation of international law.
The decision was announced after the 193-member UN General Assembly voted 138-9 with 41 abstentions to upgrade Palestine’s status to a non-member observer state on November 29.
