Some other points in regard to model consumption

If a country enjoys revenues gained from the exports and sale of oil, the consumption model must direct the economy so that in case of reduction or termination of revenues, it would be feasible to run the economy in a proper way. Otherwise, dependency and consequently the vulnerability of the society will increase and may experience the fate of certain countries such as Argentina. The country currently has 130 billion dollars of foreign debt and 150 billion dollars of domestic debt. The unsuitable economic condition brought about unrests and public protests. By analyzing the root causes, one will realize that the severe dependency of the country to foreign loans and following the IMF procedures (without considering national interests of the country) or in other words, lack of a proper model for production and consumption have played a key role in this connection.

Speaking of factors affecting the consumption model in the society, it seems that the culture governing the society has a more effective and profound influence. This is due to the fact that the actions and decisions made by individuals fully reflect their ideas, thoughts, values and ideology. Meanwhile, the traditions, values, thoughts and ideas are main components of every society. Culture has a basic role to play in the process of decision-making as well as the economic behavior of individuals. In this midst, the status of consumption culture in the thoughts of the household of prophet of Islam (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) is quite clear based on remarks made by the infallible Imams.

Adoption of a proper and logical model in consumption brings about major individual and social benefits and advantages. Because it would be impossible to attain economic independence as well as self-esteem and dignity if the amenities in the society are not in congruity with the needs and demands of individuals. At the individual level, mental and psychological calm which is the main condition for material welfare would not be attained without refraining from unnecessary and luxurious costs aimed at balancing the income and cost. Finding a consumption model appropriate for the household is not tantamount to preparing a general prescription for all. It means becoming familiar with wise behaviors, hypotheses and criteria in order to enable the family to overcome its financial problems bringing the costs closer to the amenities and reduce the mental pressures on the family from the view of hours of work, feeling of deprivation, humiliation and failure.
