Iranians condemn massacre of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar
Hundreds of Iranians have protested against the mass slaughter of the ethnic Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and urged the world bodies to help stop atrocities being perpetrated against the community in the East Asian state.
According to Press TV, during a rally held in front of the UN office in Tehran on Sunday, the Iranian demonstrators carried placards reading “What sin I was killed for?” as well as “Silence on any brutality is outrageous,” and chanted slogans in condemnation of violence against the Rohingyas.
The protesters also called on the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as well as other international institutions to take prompt and effective measures in a bid to halt the ongoing carnage in Myanmar.
Myanmar’s President Thein Sein said on July 19 that the "only solution" to the plight of Rohingya Muslims is to send the country’s nearly one million Muslims -- which is one of the world's most persecuted minorities -- to refugee camps run by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
However, the UN refugee agency has snubbed the idea of setting up refugee camps to accommodate the Rohingyas.
