Hills of Angoosh offensive operation (May21st, 1981)
Continuity of Iranian forces situation contrasted with that of Iraqi forces on the west of Karkheh River especially in Shush area was not so much in Favor of Islam army combatants. Although Iraqis had also been suppressed and stopped in this area, Hamzeh 21st division of Islamic republic of Iran army in a series of limited operations on May 21st, 1981 planned and accomplished an operation to get rid of this unfavorable condition.
Comparing with similar cases this operation was much more successful and gained better Results. This mission was done by only one battalion and enemy suffered heavy blows by courageous soldiers. This operation was simultaneously done with Allah-o-Akbar operation in Susangerd area and in fact it had a supporting mission.
Result:
-The hills dominating the Angoosh villages were captured and secured by Islam combatants and the beachhead in the west of Shush was notably developed.
-More than 210 Iraqis were killed, around 150 were wounded and 126 others were taken captive.
- Two tanks with three mortars and two vehicles were destroyed.
-A considerable number of weapons, equipment, and instruments were confiscated.
