Turkish protesters stage rally to condemn US, Israel
Thousands of Turkish people have taken to streets of the city of Istanbul to condemn the recent deadly Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and the killings of Afghan civilians by a US soldier.
Chanting anti-US and anti-Israeli slogans, the protesters on Tuesday burned the American and Israeli flags, IRNA reported.
The demonstrators in a statement supported the oppressed Palestinian people and announced their solidarity with the resistance of Afghans against US-led occupation of their country.
The protest came after Israeli attacks on Gaza killed 26 Palestinians and wounded dozens more since March 9.
Several counties including China, Turkey, Iran and Jordan have condemned the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
Anti-US sentiment was already on the rise in Afghanistan after a US trooper on Sunday opened fire on Afghan civilians inside their homes in the district of Panjwaii in Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan, killing at least 16 of them and injuring several others.
Civilian casualties in Afghanistan have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington.
