Israel, yes, Iran, a thousand times no
An Al-Bilad editorial says it would be a horrendous mistake for Saudi Arabia to view Iran as its main enemy while considering Israel as its lesser foe.
Muhammad Maroof al-Shibani’s ”Israel ….Yes, Iran…a Thousand Times No” was written in reaction to the allegation made last week by the US Justice Department that Iran was involved in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Tehran has rejected the charges, saying the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect international attention from the anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests currently rocking the country.
The article, printed in the Arab daily on Saturday, rejects any comparison between Iran and Israel and asks what the advantage of animosity between Saudi Arabia and Iran is?
”Undermining Iran is the same as Undermining Saudi Arabi and vice versa,” the article reads.
The article warned that the ”common enemies” of Iran and Saudi Arabia are lying in ambush to consume the riches of both countries.
”All countries are sustained by their people, so one should not pin hopes on fleeting crises, sudden whims....”
Iran’s envoy to the UN, Muhammad Khazaei, has filed a complaint against the US for what he called an ”evil plot.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has described the US accusation as an immature scenario and says US officials will ultimately be forced to apologize.
