22 Shia pilgrims killed in western Iraq
Unidentified armed men have shot and killed 22 Shia pilgrims in western Al Anbar province, which is located in western Iraq.
The attackers stopped the bus carrying the pilgrims at a fake security checkpoint on Monday and forced the women and children out before killing the remaining occupants, the Associated Press reported.
”The terrorists stopped the bus at gunpoint and killed 22 men,” said Maj. Gen. Abdul-Hadi Rizayig, the provincial police chief.
The victims were reportedly coming back from Syria and were on their way to a holy shrine.
Over one million Iraqis have been killed since 2003 in the US-led war and occupation, according to the California-based Project Censored.
