Tehran Symphony Orchestra to celebrate World Philosophy Day

orchestral

As UNESCO has dissociated itself from World Philosophy Day in Iran, the Tehran Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will be performing to celebrate the occasion at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.

The TSO will reprise the repertoire that was performed in Doha on November 4 and 5, TSO guest conductor Nader Mortezapur told the Persian Service of the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.

The repertoire comprises the Iranian musical selections “Bijan and Manijeh” and “Local-Like” by Samin Baghcheban and “Khorasani Song” by Arsalan Kamkar.

In addition, Maurice Jarre’s music for Moustapha Akkad’s blockbuster, “The Message”, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 are also in the repertoire.

In 2008, UNESCO accepted Iran’s bid to host this year’s the World Philosophy Day, which has been celebrated since 2002.

However, UNESCO announced last week that it would not take part in the World Philosophy Day events, which are scheduled to be held from November 21 to 23 in Tehran.

The Iranian ambassador and permanent delegate of the Islamic Republic of Iran to UNESCO has said that Iran will hold the events planned for the day by itself.
