Physical activity cuts colds risk
Individuals who are physically fit and active are less vulnerable of catching common cols, and if they do the condition would be milder, a new study shows.
Latest figures have reported that an adult catches colds on average 2 to 4 times per year, while as for the children the rate is as high as 6 to 10 times.
According to the study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, individuals who are physically fit and those who exercise regularly (five or more days per week) are 50 percent less prone to present cold symptoms compared with their less active peers.
The severity of symptoms is reported to fell by 41percent in this population, the study found.
Exercising causes a temporary rise in the number of immune system cells, helping the body identify harmful viruses and bacteria and subsequently react more rapidly to them.
Lack of sleep and following bad nutrient habits, on the other hand, are associated with a weakened immune system and increased risk of upper respiratory tract infections.
