Germany blasts anti-Iran propaganda
German Ambassador to Tehran Bernd Erbel has denounced Western media propaganda against the Islamic Republic as “unreal”, saying Iran is a unique country in the Middle East.
It is necessary to make constant efforts to amend the "incorrect" understanding by Western media of Iran, IRNA quoted Erbel as saying in a meeting with Chairman of the Cultural Commission of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel in Tehran on Sunday.
The top German diplomat stressed the importance of resolving Iran’s political issues with European countries through negotiations and interaction, adding cultural assets of nations should not be influenced by political developments.
Haddad-Adel, for his part, said deep-rooted cultural relations between the Iranian and German nations as well as the strong presence of Germany in Iran’s economic and industrial sections have laid the groundwork for enhancement of mutual relations.
"Despite certain policies to negatively affect ties between the two countries, it is expected that reciprocal ties will expand through mutual efforts to serve the interests of the two nations," the Iranian lawmaker said.
He pointed to the West’s spiteful propaganda against the Islamic Republic and said intellectualism, religiosity and commitment to the country’s independence are among prominent characteristics of the Iranian nation.
"Every effort to establish sustainable relations with the Iranian nation should be based on these prominent features," he further explained.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with head of the Iran-Germany Friendship Group Ali Adyani Rad, the top German envoy described Tehran-Berlin relations as "amicable and constructive."
Erbel called on both nations not to allow others to damage mutual relations.
He also expressed hope that the Islamic Republic will tap into its huge potential to promote relations in all fields.
Adyani Rad, in turn, said the two countries have numerous capabilities to bolster economic, industrial and cultural cooperation, adding, "It is expected that German officials will not follow those who wish to cause tension in friendly ties between the two countries."
He also called for promotion of parliamentary relations between the two countries.
