Iran to make Haft seen documentaries
A group of Iranian filmmakers is preparing to make a documentary series about the Nowruz Haft Seen, a table set to welcome the Persian New Year.
Seven filmmakers will collaborate in the Iranian Haft Seen project, by introducing each of the Haft Seen items in a separate film.
Haft seen is a table containing seven items starting with the letter 'S'; Sabzeh (freshly grown greens), Samanu (A type of traditional pudding), Senjed (jujube), Seeb (apple), Seer (garlic), Somagh (sumac) and Serkeh (vinegar).
Produced by Morteza Nedayi, the series will be based on extensive research about each item, and gathering and comparing information from various sources.
Iranian filmmaker Hadi Afarideh is one of the seven directors who will work on jujube. Afradideh has started his research in desert areas where the fruit mostly grows.
“Jujube was considered a holy fruit and used in Zoroastrian rituals and Nowruz traditions,” Afarideh said.
“My film will be a flashback, highlighting the use and role of jujube from old times until the contemporary era,” he added.
