Multivitamins keep heart attack at bay
Despite the general belief, a new study suggests that multivitamin pills are only heart tonic in women with no cardiovascular disease.
According to the study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, taking multivitamins lowers the risk of possible heart attacks in women with no cardiovascular disease.
The dietary pills, however, are less effective in women with heart disease, the study found.
The longer a woman without a heart disease would take a multivitamin; the lower would be her risk of experiencing a heart attack in the long run.
"It is very important to keep in mind that multivitamin users tend be 'healthier' in general. They usually more physically active and have a healthier diet," said lead researcher Susanne Rautiainen, stressing that more studies are needed to confirm the protective role of the vitamin pills.
"The question of whether multivitamins are good for you still remains!" Rautiainen concluded.
