Color of Arjang Kamkar’s melodies returns after 12 years
The Kamkars’ tombak virtuoso plans to showcase 32 years of his career in painting in an exhibition at the main gallery of the Niavaran Cultural Center on September 17.
Everybody knows Arjang Kamkar for his skill in music, but few people are familiar with his knack for painting.
This is not surprising: the last time he put his works on show in an exhibit dates back to 1998 when the Seyhun Gallery hung his paintings.
He came into the medium as a landscape artist. However, he also tried his hand at abstractions.
“My teachers restricted me to work in the classic styles, but I used to daydream about my own ideas and memories and I went my own way,” Kamkar has previously said.
“My spirit is such that it can never be confined, so I sometimes created figurative works, sometimes abstractions and sometimes a combination of all these styles,” he explained.
His new works, which are a mishmash of collage and painting, will also be put on display at the Niavaran show entitled “Color of Melodies”. The exhibition will run until September 27.
Arjang will not accompany the family ensemble, Kamkars, during their concerts at the Milad Tower on September 9 and 10.
