Iranian films honored at Czech festival
Three Iranian films were honored during the closing ceremony of the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which was held on July 10.
“The Orion” directed by Ali Zamani-Esmati won the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award at the Forum of Independents section.
The film is about Elham, who is put in a desperate situation after she is dishonored by her boyfriend.
“There Are Things You Don’t Know”, a drama by director Fardin Sahebzamani received an honorable mention in the competition section.
“Tinar”, a documentary about a ten-year-old cow herder deprived of a carefree childhood, received special mention at the documentary film section while “Familia” a Swedish documentary directed by Mikael Wiström and Alberto Herskovits won the best film award of this section.
“The Mosquito Net” by Spanish director Agustí Vila won the Grand Prix -- Crystal Globe of the festival.
Mirjana Karanovic (Serbia), Lee Chang-dong (South Korea), Lola Mayo (Spain), Alexei Popogrebsky (Russia), Bohdan Sláma (Czech), David Stratton, (Australia) were the members of the jury led by American cineaste Ron Yerxa.
