Shush defensive operation (March 19th, 1982)
After being defeated in Bostan, Iraqis guessed Iranians might make an attack on Karkheh bridge region or Shush area; therefore, by fortifying their positions and reinforcing forces with artillery units, they made limited attacks to disrupt the centralized organization of Iranian troops so that they couldn't launch any operation.
Tang-e-Chazzabeh attack conducted on February 6th, 1981 aimed to do so. Iraqi forces being sure of Iranian impending attack, made an attack on Iran three days before the great Fath-al-Mobin operation to disturb Iranian combat organization, recapture beachhead region in Shush and Roqabiyeh desert, access to a firm defending position for relying on western coast of Karkheh River.
An Iraqi division launched the attack, but due to Iranian forces resistance and devotion they were defeated. They could learn about the avenues of approach and operational axes to make considerable difficulties for Iranian units in the accomplishment of Fath-al-Mobin operation.
Result:
-Iraqi forces suffering lots of losses and casualties were made to withdraw and gained no success.
-Since Fath-al-Mobin operation had started 48 hours after Iraqi attack, no separate and absolute statistics has been reported about Iraqi losses and casualties.
