Senior MP Downplays Effectiveness of Sanctions against Iran

Sanctions and pressures against Iran over its peaceful nuclear program have no effect on the country's will to attain its goals of progress and development, a senior Iranian legislator said .

‘Resolutions, sanctions and pressures imposed on Iran by the western countries have just strengthened our national willpower and have made the (Iranian) government and nation even stronger and more powerful than before,’ Head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi said.

Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under three rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's illegitimate calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.

Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing those sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.

Elsewhere, Boroujerdi referred to the National Day of Nuclear Technology in Iran (April 9), and described it as a day for manifestation of the Iranians' national resolve to attain peaceful nuclear technology.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Monday that the country plans to unveil a series of new achievements on Iran's annual National Day of Nuclear Technology.

‘On Friday, concurrent with the National Day of Nuclear Technology, a number of our country's achievements would be unveiled in the presence of the president,’ Salehi stated.

Salehi did not mention if the new achievements have been made in Iran's indigenous civilian nuclear technology or any other field, but said that the Iranian people should wait to hear some good news during the ceremonies to be held on Friday.
