Tehran gallery to honor Manuchehr Sheibani

Tehran’s Brag Gallery has dedicated its art session to be held on Tuesday, June 1 to the late artist and poet Manuchehr Sheibani.

 Art critic Javad Mojabi, poet Dariush Kiaras, and Berlin-based painter Ali Nasir are invited to speak at the session where they will be discussing Sheibani’s paintings and poetry.

An exhibition of photos, artwork and documents belonging to the artist will also open at the gallery on the same day. The items are on loan from Ehsan Cultural and Historical House in Kashan, birthplace of Sheibani.

Sheibani (1924-1991) was born in Kashan. He finished primary school in Tehran and high school in Mazandaran where he studied weaving. He became interested in textile design and created designs very similar to the cubism style of Picasso.

He followed his interests and studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Art of the University of Tehran.

He was a close friend of contemporary poet and artist Sohrab Sepehri and learned much about paintings and blank verse style of poetry from him. He got to know writers and poets Sadeq Hedayat, Nima Yushij, Jalal Al-e Ahmad and Simin Daneshvar.

Sheibani traveled to Italy to complete his education and studied stage design at Rome University of Fine Arts in. He also studied filmmaking in France.

He taught dramatic arts in Tehran for years. Sheibani died on November 11, 1991.

The exhibit will run until June 24 at the Gallery located at No.13 Jamali St., off Vafamanesh Ave., in Heravi Square.
