Objectives of a Theocracy

islam

Although Imam Reza’s remarks were made with regards to the rule of Innocent Imams, since theocracy in the Era of Occultation metalizes in the form of the rule of the Just Jurisprudence and the Just Jurisprudence has all the governmental authorities of the Innocent Imam.[1]

Theocracy can have many of roles and functions mentioned by Imam Reza. Therefore the domain of the authorities of a theocracy is not limited to secular or religious affairs. The domain of a government that has religious legitimacy includes material and otherworldly domains.

In short, the most important duties and objectives of a theocracy include security, justice, providing basic needs of Muslims, guidance and education, upholding divine boundaries and defending the interests and lands of Muslims.

Religious texts and conduct of Muslims with regards to the issue of government shows that in addition to providing security, enforcing laws and protecting people’s lives and assets, the theocracy also has the duty to enforce religious values and objectives.
